At my age I am starting to get very good at the ramble.Β
I finally made the switch from Android to Apple. I've never used an Apple Phone, touched one, or held one before. But I had bought a new Moto G to replace an older one I had lost and I was inundated with notifications, bloatware, and all kinds of blocked settings by the carrier it was basically none functional to me. The freaking thing wouldn't ever stay turned off. It would turn itself back on in the middle of the night...
The replacement is a 2020 Apple IPhone SE. I've limited this thing, no Apple ID, no AI, not much going on with it other than the things I want. I'm required to have a smart phone for work although I have no idea why.Β
I use it to call people, text people, and check my work email. Every great while I will use GPS. Other than that everything else I do is from my desk or laptops.Β
Now get off my lawn or hand me another PBR.Β
We're all random here.Β 🙂Β
But does responding to a post about "random" automatically impose "order", therefore defeating the intended randomness?? 😀 😀 😀Β
a new Moto G
back when they made "dumb" phones, Motorola was one of the "kings" ... but from what I've seen as far as their handling of smartphones goes, I wouldn't touch 'em with a 10-foot pole, as the saying goes. They still make decent hardware, but their lack of software updates and (as you noted) tons of bloatware makes me stay as far away as I can.Β
I've used Google Pixel phones for the last 5 or so years. It has the controls I want to minimize notifications and little to no bloatware. I'm not thrilled with their constant AI push but can avoid it for the most part.Β Β
I have faith that we will self correct to ramblings, musings, and unfocused and random comments.Β

I've heard people complain about products bought from Amazon, but in my experience, I've never had anything happen out of the ordinary until a week or so ago.
Ramping up for my annual Halloween viewing, I had settled on a slate of cosmic/Lovecraftian horror films as one of the themes, partly because I wanted a reason to upgrade my old DVD of Carpenter's In the Mouth of Madness to Arrow's new 4k. So I pulled the trigger via Amazon, and choosing a copy supposedly sold by Amazon.Β
When I received the item, I was immediately suspicious because even though the cover looked like the Arrow edition and cover said it was 4k, it was packaged not in a black 4k case, but in a blue Blu-Ray case and labeled as such. I thought maybe there was some kind of mix-up in the case or whatnot, but decided to investigate further. Inside the case was not a professionally manufactured 4k disc, but a blank-faced BD-R. No label, no nothing.Β
I immediately began the return process. When I dropped it off at the local Whole Foods for return, showing the clerk the BD-R in the process, he asked if I watched whatever was on the disc. I told him I'd seenΒ way too many horror movies to do that, which cracked him up. So I guess it was worth it for that.
@sock_monkeyΒ That is pretty freakin' weird. Glad you didn't watch that disc, though!

I was tempted, just to see how far they went with this, but then I was like, I won't be able to unsee anything that comes on screen, so I noped the heck out. π
