Valancourt emerged from their unholy Summer slumber this past weekend with a new newsletter...It'd been over three months, I believe, and I was worried they had gone under.
They have the e-book of Nathaniel Benchley's THE VISITORS on sale for $2.99 this week, so I grabbed a copy. I'd never heard of this book before, but the Charles Addams cover and the description grabbed me. The story finds a family renting a dilapidated seaside house with a dark history, but the tone is mostly humorous, with chilling, uncomfortable moments sprinkled in. I've read about halfway through so far, and I'm enjoying it very much.
I love what Valancourt does. I may not be a customer for many of their releases, but I'm still glad they're releasing into the world even those books that I don't have much interest in, books that are virtually unknown and deserve a second gasp at life. If they ever did go under, that would be such a loss.

Amen. Seeing the Valancourt imprint on a book has prompted me to take a chance on many an unknown (to me!) author or book, and I'm usually glad that I did, as is the case with THE VISITORS.
