I'm currently going through the few seasons of Manifest. I think I heard rumblings that this one was never wrapped up before it was cancelled.

It is good enough as a time waster, has some light drama, moderately intriguing, but rolling into season 2 they seem a little lost on the story.

Overall it's good background noise and has enough going on to pass the time.

Watching the second season of BEEF on NetFlix...it's good, albeit different from the first season, almost more like White Lotus than the first season of BEEF, which isn't a bad thing at all.

I'm curious about this new season. I thought the first one started really strong and then just kinda petered out.

I agree...the back-and-forth antagonism of the first season got a little redundant and tired. This new season is more like White Lotus in that it's a setup that ratchets up its conflict with escalating plot points, and with characters that aren't as linear and one-note as the first season. It's not at White Lotus level, but it's solid and better than BEEF's first season.

We've been doing movies a lot more often (which is a nice change of pace) but we (wife and I) are currently watching:

  • Daredevil (Disney+)
  • Slow Horses (AppleTV)
    • This show is just so good!

For some reason I think I'm forgetting something we've been bouncing to and from but I'm drawing a blank.

Others have told me Slow Horses is great. I keep forgetting to check it out.

Yeah definitely check it out. I really like how the seasons are relatively short (I think it works well with this show) - nothing feels rushed. Plus for being an ensemble investigative show, I don't feel gross. Yeah there's death, but it doesn't weigh on me like other shows in this genre.

I should check out the books the show is based on. So many books, too little time.

Interesting. I was not aware it was based on books.

Another series that's streaming on AMC+ (but the first few seasons are on Netflix) that we've enjoyed recently is Dark Winds. That's also based on a book series.

I need to get back to Dark Winds. I tried the first couple episodes of the first season, but it didn't catch my attention. I'm a big fan of Zahn McClarnon, so I need to at least give this another try.

My wife and I tried Slow Horses, but she tapped out after two episodes, calling it very boring. I've heard it takes a bit to get going, so maybe I can convince her to give it another go. It's gotten so much praise, I feel like I need to give it another shot.

I liked Daredevil: Born Again season one, so I'm excited to start delving into the second season. However, I'm still kind of debating about going back and doing the Netflix run first. I remember the first season being pretty slow and never watched the next two, but I'm a big fan of Bernthal, especially as the Punisher (One Last Kill looks like it's going to be good), so I want to see that second season.

Beyond this, we are currently doing a very casual rewatch of The West Wing. I don't think we are going to do the full series, but I'm enjoying revisiting the first few seasons.

@sock_monkey

The first few seasons of the West Wing were so good. Aaron Sorkin on his best game, and that cast! Damn.

Someone else recently told me hat they also thought Slow Horses was boring and I didn't find it that way - maybe I just love the slow burn type shows more?

Weelll, I may be spoken a little soon and illustrates why one shouldn't pass judgement on something when only halfway through...this second season of BEEF didn't end particularly strong, so maybe its first season was consistently stronger, after all. Still, points to them for changing things up.

That's not unexpected, but disappointing nonetheless. I might still give it a watch, but it was never at the top of my list to do and this doesn't help it any.

Watched the first two episodes of Something Very Bad is Going to Happen. I'll probably continue, but I'm not understanding the buzz around this. The best way I can describe it at this point is "Gen Z Ryan Murphy." Every decision is amped to 14. If a show would normally have one serial killer, this show has two. The main female protagonist not only has a dead mother, but also an estranged agoraphobic father. Not to mention, her last relationship didn't just end badly, her ex tried to literally set themselves on fire.  Subtle does not exist in this show.

I'm withholding final opinion until I either finish it or tap out, but I'm not so sure about this one.
