11/22/63 Mini-Series

I have not watched it, precisely because James Franco stars in it. A "charisma void" is a great term! He was terrible in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, a film I overall enjoyed but never want to rewatch because of him. When I found out he'd been cast in 11/22/63, I was horribly disappointed, but thought I'd still watch it sometime.

Sometime hasn't arrived yet.

I'd seen him in a ton of stuff, before he got "canceled", but he never really bothered me until now. Every time he's onscreen, I can't help but think "How did they settle on HIM...?" 

I first discovered his blandness in Spider-Man. Twenty-five years later, and he's only gotten more bland. I'd forgotten all about the scandals.

I forgot that he was even IN the Spider-Man films, lol.

My wife and I started watching this when it was first out on Hulu. I think we only managed a few episodes before we lost track of it. It wasn't bad, but it didn't become must see TV for us. And then I forgot about it and only remembered when I saw something online about it NOT being on Hulu anymore. I'm glad it's resurfaces on Netflix though. More evidence as to why physical media is so important - it doesn't disappear whenever the wind blows.  (Although I don't think this show is even on disc . . .)

I am in the camp of loving the miniseries almost as much as I loved the book. I actually think Franco did fine as his bland nature matched the character to me. Regarding how Franco got cast, if my memory serves me right, he was also a producer and he and J.J. Abrams worked together to get the movie funded approved for production, so he probably came with it and did not audition.

I really should try and revisit this show to finish it. Not a huge commitment but I get distracted easily it seems when I set off to watch something.

 Overall, I'd say this was an OK, at best, mini-series. Franco was terribly miscast, and the story fell prey to the worst of Stephen King's writing tropes...quite a few of them, in fact. The gorgeous Sarah Gadon, who played Sadie, was basically all that kept me going through the final few episodes.

The gorgeous Sarah Gadon, who played Sadie, was basically all that kept me going through the final few episodes.

I'm definitely going to need to revisit this since I don't remember Sadie (and I've read the book - my reading retention is something else it seems!

 I think we just read so MUCH that it becomes hard to remember details, lol.
