As Ron mentioned in another thread, Clive Barker announced a new Kickstarter project today, comprised of three short story collections. The Kickstarter page doesn't say much about how much of this content is new; It's described as a mix of new and old stories, with no TOC or story titles announced.
I've had some annoying experiences with crowdfunding books on Kickstarter. Books that are close to a decade late, a creator (Talking to YOU, Tim Truman!) who took fifty grand in pledges and vanished off the face of the Earth, stretch items never being produced...so I wouldn't be backing this, even if my current situation permitted it. Plus, has Barker written anything worthwhile this century...? THE SCARLET GOSPELS was probably the biggest literary disappointment of my life. It was just awful. (I don't even believe that Barker wrote that book, and a quick look at the Reddit thread about this Kickstarter shows me I'm not alone in that thought.) Plus, with his health problems, I have to wonder if this will ever come to fruition, or if it will be another ghost-written mess.
I want to be excited about this, but I'm going to pass. I'm not one for crowdfunding and the lack of info regarding the TOC combine to make this something I can't get behind. I hope it's really awesome because I want Barker to make a huge comeback.
Hard pass for me. I've backed two kickstarters in my life, neither panned out, even though they were fully funded and then some, and I didn't receive anything.
Plus I'm not a huge Barker fan. Weaveworld is my favorite from him. The few ever ventures into his work have been disappointing.
I'll just enjoy my boxed Sub Press set of THE BOOKS OF BLOOD -- remember its innovative and phantasmagoric glory -- and pass on this new set. My experience with later Barker just doesn't move the needle for me on this one. But, hey, I hope I'm proven wrong and end up regretting passing on it...it'd be great to have him back in the scene.
I wanted to be supportive, hell I actually backed it immediately before really thinking about it and Clive's output and the last time I backed a project on kickstarter (Nightscape Press anyone?) The kicker to me was the revelation yesterday, or late Tuesday, by the artist coming forward and claiming responsibility for the new covers. You have access to decades of glorious, extremely dark but obviously perfect for this project art by Clive Barker himself and you choose to go this route? It isn't adding up to me.

Welcome to the board, W!
I second the welcome!

Thank you both! Been lurking since the move over from the Cemetery Dance days! Really enjoying the interactions here so far...
