@dannyboy121070 Full Moon sold a bunch of Lifetime subscriptions and folded after delivering 1 book. They then claimed a bunch of health issues caused the issues but someone who was already part of leadership was taking over but all the same people and problems remained. I believe they eventually became King's Way press.

YES!! Thank you, Martin! I knew it had SOMETHING to do with King's Way, which was a scam from day one. If I'm remembering correctly, the "sick" Full Moon guy was in charge, but denied he was the same person, then he claimed, posting on social media as his own wife, that he had passed away...I remember pre-ordering one Full Moon title, and tracking down the "dead" man to get a refund. He had no money, being dead and all, but I did get a copy of King's Way's edition of CARMILLA...I seem to recall that all that King's Way ever really published were public domain books, like CARMILLA and DRACULA. Man, those were strange days in the small press.

@ronclinton It does seem like an odd time. I am up, will be up, but will be driving my wife to the airport.

I have a King's Way Press lifetime subscription. I just counted and I've received 50 titles in a rare hardcover and signed paperback subscription. I haven't heard anything in about a year in a half so it might have folded. I think I spent around $200 so not a bad deal.

Carmilla was also from full moon press. I received carmilla and Wildman trades as part of my subscription.

Wow, they must have really flown under the radar, because I had no idea they were still kicking.

I have one Kings Way Press title, which I purchased through CD. The title is 'The Ghosts of Benevolence', it was supposed to be a 200 copy signed edition with a tray case. CD got it several years without the tray case and they told Dan Hocker that the tray case would come soon. He held the copies for a few years and gave up and sent out the books. I was on the Kings Way Press email list and they sent non-updates out about twice a year. I would respond to each email with a simple question 'Would the Ghosts of Benevolence tray case be released soon?' I received exactly 0 responses. Eventually they remedied by no longer sending me emails. There website is still up and the book I have is listed as available with the tray case. I doubt they have a tray case, and they probably do not have the book. At the point they dropped communication with me they were primarily publishing paperbacks; many signed and did put out a few limited editions. It is unfortunate as Ghosts of Benevolence is a beautiful book.

Managed to grab a copy of Lonseome Dove this morning - zero issues. Took a few minutes at most.

Almost bought an “ok/decent” 1/1 on eBay yesterday but held off. Hoping to find a nicer copy in August at a book fair.

@lazlo I have the ghosts of benevolence paperback and limited hardcover. I got an answer out through eBay message. They're pretty bad at answering e-mails. Hoping to get a new box this year.

The next day I have an email from Rick Hautala thanking me for the nice words. He also stated that he always keeps two PC copies of each edition and he was not sure how many they had sent him. He offered to check and if he had more than two he would gift one to me. I accepted of course but a few days later he contacted me again that he only had two and could not send me a lettered, but he had something else that he was sending. I received a limited PC inscribed! I have since added the lettered to my collection.

Okay, I tried to trim that down, let's see if it still attributes it to the correct person. 😬

Anyway, just want to chime in that Rick was always one of the good ones to me when I was a young and dumb kid on AOL and a few early message boards trying to figure out how the whole publishing thing worked. People like him and Dick Laymon taught me how to approach this business and how to treat people, and I try very hard to live up to their examples...

After almost a decade, Haffner Press is finally shipping their Robert Bloch collection, THE VAMPIRE STORIES OF ROBERT BLOCH. Infamously slow to produce announced titles (and while I've never had issues, I've heard complaints r.e. their communication), this one is, according to their site, finally shipping after being announced in 2017.

I threw myself on the proverbial grenade and ordered a copy last night as soon as I saw it had moved to Shipping status (I've been looking forward to this collection for, well, almost a decade)...I'll let you all know how my order goes.

If you want to throw caution to the wind as I did, you can do so here:

www.haffnerpress.com/book/the-vampire-stories-of-robert-bloch/

Good luck with your order. I have had my eye on this since I first saw it mentioned, but (Aside from my unemployed status keeping me from buying anything) my prior dealing with the asshole who owns Haffner insures that I will never order from them again. I seem to recall that no dealers carry their books, either. Keep us posted!

It's been three days and no confirmation of the order, other than the original confirmation of payment from PayPal. Dropped an email to him yesterday to touch base and confirm the order went through, and no response yet. It's still early so not going to get worked up yet, but you'd sure think a publisher whose reputation could use some repair would be on top of customer communication. Oh well. Hoping to see the book soon.

A generally positive update: The book arrived yesterday. It was in a cardboard box with a modicum amount of packing material to protect it, decent but not enough to prevent bumps on a couple corners of the book, probably because the box itself wasn't much larger than the book. Still, I've seen far worse packing jobs. It came with the facsimile postcard of Bloch's induction as a Count Dracula Society Governor.

It appears to be Smyth-sewn, but it's already pulling away from the spine at the top a bit, even though it's not particularly thick and hasn't been shelved yet...this sag is typically something you see with books with high page counts that have been shelved for some time without page-block support, so I'm not clear why it has this appearance already. The bottom is still nicely rounded. Design-wise, the book is nicely laid out and produced, quite lovely, as I've found all Haffner books to be.

Overall, I'm pleased to finally have it in my hands, though am mildly disappointed that an expectant wait of almost a decade (since it was announced, I did not pre-order it) resulted in a $60 book with lightly bumped corners and a slight page-block sag. I'm not going to let it bother me, though...Bloch is one of my all-time favorites, and a new collection (of, yes, reprints, all of which I've likely already read at some point) is for me a cause for celebration.

I'm still a sucker for a new book of reprints if they're ones I really like or even love. Actually, I'm just a sucker for new anything from certain authors, so...

Brian

Glad your copy arrived, Ron! Enjoy!
