The other nagging thought I have is the weight of the books. We are moving to a house on an elevated foundation (on piers). I'm thinking I should have someone go under there and add some additional supports...

I'm certainly no architect, but I wouldn't think with just the twenty totes of books that you mention in the previous post that that weight would add any concern to a properly constructed home, piers or not. Might be worth getting a professional inspection and opinion, though, for your own peace of mind.
Thanks, guys. Book packing is well underway. A lot of "Wow. I didn't remember I had this." AND "Wow. I never opened this package with whatever book this is."
I'm a veteran book mover but it has been 8 years since the last move. I'm a little older, and honestly, the energy level isn't the same as it was back then.
I think we may explore cost for packers to pack the kitchen up. Like the books, the kitchen stuff, is a heavy wrapping job.
@Ron - I don't have the volume you did. But I will have probably 20 totes and several firmly packed boxes.
Good luck with the packing and the move - I don't envy you one bit.
My plan is to not ever move again and force my kids to deal with all "the stuff" after I'm dead 😀 😀 😀

My wife has been worried about my man-cave collapsing into the crawlspace below it for years. She googled how much weight the average home's floor can safely support, and she got back 3,000 lbs. So there's ME, six full bookcases, a desk covered with 9 huge stacks of comics, comics piled in stacks on the floor, a big recliner, and a TV on a big wooden stand.
I'm still alive and uncollapsed!
Back in 2023, my MIL was moving in with us, so I had to pack up all of my books and put the into storage. I started with medium sized boxes from Home Depot and eventually started using similar sized boxes from Walmart.
I knew I had a lot of books, but the day I was loading them into the Uhaul, I saw the max weight warning and legit worried I maybe had too many books.
I wish I could remember how many boxes there were - 86 sounds right. I just know it was a literal ton of books.
We bought a house in August of that year, and we hired movers (I also had movers when I moved to Colorado in 2019) and I'll never move myself again. Having them be responsible for all of those boxes, and all of our other crap was worth every penny. I didn't have to navigate one stair (we lived on the second floor apartment but they did have elevators at least; and our house has a basement, and quite a lot of stuff went down there) or lift one box or have to wrangle an awkward piece of furniture around a corner.
Now I have no plans to move. These books will have to be someone else's problem when I die.
