They've done Absolute editions but they remastered the colors which were universally hated. And I think prior to that they did a Saga of the Swamp Thing tpb boxset that had less offensive coloring.
And while not as bad as Marvel, the Absolute Swamp Things have gone in and out of print a few times too.
I was just wondering why DC hadn't collected the Moore run in an omnibus yet...
The ABSOLUTE SWAMP THING volumes are gorgeous productions. I guess I'm alone in loving the way the new coloring looked...

Yeah, I've seen comparisons of the coloring online and it kills a lot of the nuance the originals had. I was this close to pulling the trigger on that TPB boxset (and still might), then I heard about the Alan Moore omnibus. Though, to be honest, I hate to go that route because my collector's OCD will require me to pick up the Dark Genesis set and I'm not sure how much I'll dig Bronze Age Swamp Thing. I mean, I could show some patience because it looks like they've kicked off a Swamp Thing series in the DC Finest line, which I'm assuming will eventually run through Moore's run and probably Veitch's, if it is selling well enough at that point. That'd be years down the road, though.
Aside from the Wein/Wrightson issues, you can easily skip the rest of the original series. The 80's revival, though, is worth collecting from issue #1. That iteration of SW was blessed with some amazing writers. Martin Pasko, Alan Moore, Rick Veitch, Nancy A. Collins, Mark Millar, Grant Morrison...

Thanks for the perspective! While I think the the HC omnibuses are awesome, the price tag is a little stiff in relation to my interest. I'm think I'm leaning toward a combination of the DC Finest volume, singles of the Pasko run (since a local shop has (admittedly lower grade) copies of most of the issues for two bucks, and then the TPB box set of the Moore run. I kinda hate the hodge-podge nature of this, though.
And I agree, the talent on that Swamp Thing series is crazy. I've read some of the Alan Moore stuff in the past, which is why I want to go back to read the whole thing, but I do have a feeling that with this line up of authors, I'll probably want to continue onward.
Also, I miss Vertigo. The sheer amount of stellar comics that came out of that imprint is insane. Not everything worked for me, but there was always big swings to appreciate.

Yeah, Vertigo was a real powerhouse, back in the day. They had a strong Editor at the helm, and everything was top-quality. Like you said, I didn't enjoy everything they did, but I enjoyed a LOT of what they did. HELLBLAZER was another Vertigo book that had an insane amount of top talent involved during it's run.
Oh, man, I loved Hellblazer, what little of it I actually read. 30, 40 issues, maybe, which isn't a lot for a 300-issue run. This is another title I want to track down in its entirety. I've toyed with the idea of going the floppies route, but that's gonna be pricey considering the size of the run. I know they've done a bunch of various author-driven omnibuses for it and like a 26-volume TPB series, but I'm really hoping we're gonna get some DC Finest volumes soon, which would a little more affordable.
@sock_monkey You need to at least read the Garth Ennis run, which was collected in Omnibus form a while back. It might be out of print now, though.

I know I read Dangerous Habits back in the day, but I don't recall what else.
A quick check of instocktrades shows them having the Ennis omnibus for $90, which is cheaper than Amazon right now. They also have the two Delano volumes, the first for the same price as the Ennis and the second for only $60. Those prices are rather tempting.
Amazon has some good prices on omnibus volumes lately. Not a huge fan of Delano's work, personally, but the Ennis omni is prime John Constantine.
I just read ALIEN VS. CAPTAIN AMERICA, which was an outstanding blend of WWII action, Sci-Fi, and Horror, as well as being batshit crazy by the time it ended. One of the better ALIEN crossover books that I've ever read.
