What are you currently reading?

 Still plowing away through ANGEL DOWN. The one-long-sentence gimmick does get annoying occasionally, and Kraus gets overly descriptive about the WWI setting, but, jeeze...It sounds like a Hell on Earth. I'm 70% of the way through, and the book is barreling ahead. Can't wait to see how/if he sticks the landing.

 And still slowly savoring Terry Lamsley's THINGS SEEN AND UNSEEN, which is one of the finest single-author collections that I have ever read.

 On the comic-book front, I'm reading VAMPIRELLA ARCHIVES, VOLUME THREE, which is great fun.

Thanks to Alan over at Shortwave Publishing, I had a chance to read an eARC of Philip Fracassi's upcoming collection Traps and Specters: Stories and loved it! This ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ collection of stories CREEPED. ME. OUT.

 

They're all terrific, but the standout story for me was I THINK MY TREEHOUSE IS HAUNTED. Holy crap!! Goosebumps!!! ACTUAL GOOSEBUMPS!!!!

 I just received an ARC as well, and now you've made me even more excited to read it!

 I finished ANGEL DOWN last night, and that was a book that I will be thinking about for a long time. Horrible, disgusting, heartbreaking, beautiful, thought-provoking...It was a lot to digest. The ending was breathtaking.

 I was so impressed that I jumped right into another Daniel Kraus book, BENT HEAVENS. Very good so far. 

Even though I don't know when I'll get to it, I am glad to hear your thoughts.

I'm going to see Daniel Kraus again on Tuesday on his Denver stop for his newest book and I'll be getting my copy of Angel Down signed for sure (I already have Whalefall from his last stop here.)

I try to read one big series each year, breaking them up with unrelated books between series entries. Right now I'm re-reading King's Dark Tower series. I'm currently about halfway through the third boo, The Waste Lands.

I love the first three books and have read them more times than pretty much anything else King has written. Probably just hit me at the right time and place. I was 11 or 12 when I found the Plume paperbacks on my mom's bookshelf.

I've listened to parts of the series on audio over the years and keep thinking of doing a big "re-read" of the entire series that way but I'm not sure when I'd actually have time to listen to that much. Back when I had a 90 minute drive to work each way, it would be been very possible... these days my commute is about 65 steps!

@dannyboy121070 TRAPS AND SPECTERS really is excellent! Most of these were new to me, except D7 (Shortwave published a paperback of this novella a couple of years ago, I think) and I really enjoyed them all!

Just finished WHALEFALL and loved it.  I'm really looking forward to ANGEL DOWN.  I'm hoping it's next up in a Kraus series from SST.  

I also been reading THINGS SEEN AND UNSEEN.  I finished the first volume about a month ago.  Taking a break before I get into the second.  I wish I had known about him before.  Great stories.

I'm currently listening to book 6 of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, and just started reading SON OF THE ENDLESS NIGHT Centipede edition by John Farris.

Just started a psychological thriller, In Their Eyes, that the author, Simon F. Godin, sent me for review ahead of its publication on September 1. This is his debut novel so I don't expect many will have heard of him or the book - anyone else? 

The prologue really grabbed my attention, and the setup in chapter 1 was excellent! I'm looking forward to seeing how the story plays out.

I completely agree about I Think My Treehouse Is Haunted.  It was one of his patreon stories for last year, and damn it’s a good.

 I never saw the ending coming.

Taking another break from the Stories anthology and starting The Talisman by King & Straub tonight.

This will be my third time reading The Talisman.

Hoping I enjoy it as much as I did the second time through.

There was an event in the story where I figured something was going to happen, but yeah, I definitely did NOT expect it to end that way! 

Daniel Kraus' BENT HEAVENS has me hooked so far. I usually start a new book impatiently waiting for the author to "Get to the point". If I'm reading a vampire book, "The point" is when we finally get past the setup, and get to the vampire. A really engrossing book sucks me in so much that I actually FORGET about getting to the point. I'm about a quarter of the way through this book, it just got to "The point", and I was so engrossed with the main character and her life that I just about forgot that there was a point to get to. I could have just read a few hundred pages more about her situation and problems and been perfectly satisfied. I'm really excited to see where Kraus takes the story from here.

Just finished an eARC of In Their Eyes that the author, Simon F. Godin, provided to me. It's a riveting psychological thriller and happens to be his debut novel. 

Honestly, I thought it was fantastic - so well written and engaging that it could easily have passed for a book by an author with many published works under their belt. 

Grace Boone - Gracie to her few friends - is a freshman student at Elora University in Winding River. While not a large city, it's much larger than her hometown of Caldmore, Ontario, where she's lived with her police chief father, Hank, all her life. Moving into her residence hall marks her first time away from her hometown and her father, and she's hoping to fit in and find new friends as she majors in Psychology. 

She experiences a series of unsettling events, beginning with a mysterious hooded figure watching her room from the parking lot at night, and continuing with discoveries that trigger an identity crisis, and have her questioning how safe and secure she really is. She even begins to have doubts about the people around her, including Raven, her roommate and closest friend, and starts wondering who she can really trust as her life begins to unravel around her.
