Welcome to the new Book Haven Forum.

This site was originally a proof of concept I wanted to see if I could build a forum that I could host since the signs were beginning to return that Cemetery Dance was going to shutdown their existing forum.

Well, as we all found out today, CD did just that. With no announcement or forewarning - CD's forum is now gone.

Right now, this site isn't costing me any money (other than $20 a year for the domain) so it's pretty low frill right now. There are plug-ins that can be purchased (like for private messaging) but for right now, unless someone wanted to chip in a few bucks, I don't have any current plans to buy any of those.

So a few things to be aware of here:

  • I'm not a professional web guy - I dabble. This site is running on my shared server that I have a few other websites on. I think for the volume that's expected, this will be fine for the foreseeable future
  • Today - the website is using a domain that I had around but wasn't using. I'm in the process of getting that setup and I should be able to transfer this forum to that site with little to no interruption or loss of data (I want to make sure I don't lose any users who have already signed up.)
  • Speaking of signing up - Yahoo emails seem to be blocked by Yahoo. I don't think this is a "me" issue because I've had problems in my professional life with Yahoo blocking legitimate emails
  • Moderation settings are currently but I'm going to relax them. I don't think we'll see a lot of spam (yet) so I may have to turn those back up, but that's only for new users.
  • Colors - I'm working on adjusting the stock colors to make things a little more welcoming and appealing.

Anyway, for those of you that signed up in the beginning - thank you!

I hope this can become a new home to those of us who just lost our previous home.

I welcome any and all feedback. This is your place too.

It looks like everything (and everyone) has been migrated to the new URL.

I did have one hiccup with the Google reCaptcha setting, but I think I solved that.

You did indeed. I wasn't able to log in previously because of the reCaptcha issue, but did so now with no problem. Thanks again for getting this up and running!

Is there an edit function for posts that I'm not seeing, or is it kind of like X/Twitter where editing is not possible? I was going to edit my above post and mention that "Cemetery Dance" is misspelled and suggest putting Centipede Press in the publishers area, but I couldn't find a way to do so.

But I guess by doing this I ended up accomplishing my goal anyhow, so... 😉

EDIT: Well, okay, that's odd...this post had an edit button on it, but the previous one did not. Weird.

I believe the default behavior is to only allow a limited edit window. Yes - confirmed you can edit within 5 minutes of posting, but after that the post is locked.

I can change that if it becomes an issue.

And I thought I had Centipede in the publisher's area? Or am I hallucinating over here in the thin mountain air?

I must not have saved it but Centipede is there now.

The order can also be adjusted - it's currently in the order I added them. I can go alphabetical if that is easier.

Ah, okay -- a limited window to edit. Makes sense why that first one, then, didn't have it. Thanks for the clarification. And, yep, I see Centipede now!

@ronclinton

I like the limited editing window - I notice mistakes as soon as I post (even though I read my post before clicking . . .) - this will prevent out of context edits or whatever. Just keeps some version control here you know?
