Let's All Go to the Lobby

I'm always late to the party these days but finally saw Bugonia. 

What a weird movie that I hated until I didn't anymore. It's disturbing and intense. Some very good performances with just enough story to keep me interested. 

The underpinnings of  this movie are very dark and really struck me with some melancholia in the viewing moment. 

This movie is sticking with me for the moment. As a caregiver for a very long time I've been exposed to all forms of issues with the medical field. This kind of story struck a nerve with me.

Bugonia was an interesting watch. I like Emma Stone a lot and I think Jesse Plemons is criminally underrated as an actor. I don't know if the film worked completely for me. Part of that was the soundtrack, which was a little too bombastic for my tastes. The movie is a remake of a Japanese film Save the Green Planet, and I'm really interested in giving it a watch to see how it works. Asian films tend handle the tonal mixing of humor and horror a lot better than American films, in my opinion.

I really enjoyed BUGONIA, even the crazy score, which worked for me considering how over-the-top the movie was. Plemons has become someone whose presence in the cast can make a film a must-watch for me.

The trailers for Bugonia really interested me. It looked bizarre with some really good actors. Unfortunately, as it was hitting theatres, I had a severe shoulder injury, so I never made it to a theatre to see it. I did see it was now on one of the streaming services I have. I hope to get to it soon.

I posted a thread about HOKUM, which I saw earlier this week, and today I took my wife to see THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2. The theater was packed, and I think I was the only guy in there, lol. I took my wife to see the original in 2006, when we were still dating, so it was kind of nice to see the sequel together 20 years later. The returning cast all have great chemistry, and it was fun catching up with them after two decades. We both had a good time. 

LOL AND very cool. 

Glad you had a great time together. That sounded like it was fun.

My wife and I also watched this on Friday. I was especially interested in it because it takes place in Washington, I used to dive A LOT when I lived there, and stars a Giant Pacific Octopus.

My rating is probably harsh - ⭐️ - I will NOT stand for the wolfeel slander in this movie!

But seriously - we both enjoyed it quite a bi. Yeah it was emotionally manipulative but I need that sometimes. It’s too easy to fall into doom and gloom. And feeling something positive and heart-warming is needed.

I gave it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ on my Letterboxd.

GPOs were amazing when I encountered them underwater. Wolfeels were one of my favorite creatures to encounter as well.

My wife and I watched Remarkably Bright Creatures today.

 

While some folks might find this type of movie hokey or just plain old boring, we enjoyed the rolling out of the story, the sometime quirky point of view, and found the older style humor to be funny.

 

The touching moments, finding human connections, and the feel-good nature of this story allowed us plenty of connection points to love.

 

I liked the dialogue and, every once in a while, a movie which has an ending with a bow on it. As a bonus, the music which accompanies the ending credits fit perfectly.

My wife and I watched Remarkably Bright Creatures today.

 

While some folks might find this type of movie hokey or just plain old boring, we enjoyed the rolling out of the story, the sometime quirky point of view, and found the older style humor to be funny.

 

The touching moments, finding human connections, and the feel-good nature of this story allowed us plenty of connection points to love.

 

I liked the dialogue and, every once in a while, a movie which has an ending with a bow on it. As a bonus, the music which accompanies the ending credits fit perfectly.

My wife and I watched it last night, and both really enjoyed it. I'll be honest, I went in pretty skeptical for whatever reason, but was pleasantly surprised. It's the kind of movie that's easy to enjoy, with interesting characters and just enough humor and pathos to keep the narrative moving along. I do think ** SPOILER ** that actor chosen to portray the lead looked older than he should have, for reasons discovered later.

Speaking of octopi, My Octopus Teacher is a documentary that I saw several years ago, and I think it's one of the best, touching documentaries I've seen...highly, highly recommended.

@tacomadiver My understanding was that there are three English plurals for Octopus, each with a different origin. They are Octopi, Octopuses and Octopodes. Can't recall which is from which each is from, but I believe the origins were Latin, Greek and English.

My wife and I watched REMARKABLY BRIGHT CREATURES last night, and we both really enjoyed it. I thought it dragged at times, but overall, a good watch. The octopus effects were excellent. I never felt that uncanny valley effect...Marcellus felt like a real character. Alfred Molina's voice acting was great.

I just learned Monday that Fangoria and Regal Cinemas are now doing event movies on the 13th of each month. Last night was An American Werewolf in London, and I was able to go. It's my all-time favorite horror movie, and the last time I saw it in a theater was December 1983. It was fun! It was followed by a brief, new interview with Rick Baker.
