Good morning!
Just a quick post to announce some new features here on Book Haven Forum!
First - better attachments!
We can now post attachments in-line with our messages!
This also means we can add more than one attachment to each message.
There are some size limits though so be aware of those. The most important one is your image has to be smaller than 10mb (I set this value; if I discover it needs to be adjusted, I'll do just that.) 512mb. That seems pretty large IMHO.
The second new feature - Private Messages!
Just click on a user's profile, and in the upper right hand corner, there is now an envelope icon - this to message that user.
If I configured it right, you should receive an email that lets you know when you receive a private message.
Anyways, thanks to everyone that has joined and to everyone who has been posting. I'm impressed with the activity already! And for what it's worth, my wife thinks it's pretty cool that I made this site. 🙂
You're killing it, bro! Thanks for giving us all a new home.
Hey, thanks, TD...I know those new plug-in features don't come free, so we all appreciate you adding them to our experience.
If you ever need to do an annual pledge drive to keep the site up and running (can't recall how much you said it was costing you) each year, let us all know how we can pitch in.
We all agree with your wife. You building this is pretty cool! I also agree with Ron regarding raising money to fund the cost of the site, I would be happy to contribute some funding and if you want to maybe offer some small giveaways for randomly selected donors I would be willing to contribute a book or two.
That's super awesome of both of you!
While this is costing me a little bit of money, it's not enough to feel like I need to ask for donations yet.
I do like the idea of the giveaways to those who donate something - that actually sounds like a lot of fun. I even have some books I'd consider tossing in as well. You all might be onto something here!
For full disclosure, the domain registration is $20 a year (there are cheaper places yes, but I got this domain through my hosting company since it keeps everything under one umbrella and makes it easier to manage all in one place) and the these two plug-ins cost me $69 (one time price - thank you for not making it a subscription!) So really the only reoccurring expense if the domain.
But maybe when we grow some more we could look into doing a raffle. I think that could be fun!

Another update that I thought was kind of fun - as a reward of sorts to all of you who were the first ones to sign up, I created some custom flair for your user profile.
A badge of honor to speak. I figure I'll keep this going for the first 25 members.
Thanks for all the hard work you keep doing TD! This place keeps getting better and better.
Any time you need the help in donations I’ll be there.
Ivo
Thank you! I appreciate that!

Woohoo, first I had bragging rights for coming up with the name of the site, and, now, I'm a Vanguard Member -- I'll try not to get a swelled head! 😎
Now to test the new attachment function and prove my Vanguardness...
*** ...and this is the test of the limited-time Edit function -- and, like the attachment function, it works too!
