Happy Fall everybody! The fire pit is running full time and I'm starting my yearly seasonal reading of Roger Zelazny's A Night in the Lonesome October. I'll dip into some Bradbury, M.R. James, King and Others. I'll watch the Corny Jeff Goldblum version of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, the one with snow on the ground LOL!. Nexy up, a childhood favorite, Don Knotts, the Ghost and Mr. Chicken, Fred Ward, Cast a Deadly Shadow and finally, some Good Ole Carl Kolchak: The Night Stalker. And whatever else catches my fancy. Not many Trick a Treaters anymore, as the neighborhood aged out and Trunk a Treat seem to be the thing. But we leave the light on and hand out a few treats. The rest go to the USO. Hope Y'all enjoy the Fall Festivities!!
Happy Halloween! I try to consume at least SOME Horror every day of the month of October, and I've been keeping busy reading T. Kingfisher's THE SWORN SOLDIER, and watching movies, including THE SHINING, DOCTOR SLEEP, and THE OTHER MOMMY, among others. Almost done with Mike Flanagan's CARRIE, which is outstanding so far.
Hoping to get the Halloween vibe back...It's my favorite day of the year, which was really tainted in 2025, as I was laid off on the 31st of October. Trying to turn my mind off and enjoy a movie is not as easy as it used to be, after a year of unemployment. Books do the trick, I can immerse myself in Alex Easton's world in THE SWORN SOLDIER just fine, but movies are hard to get into now...my mind just keeps racing around, thinking about my problems. Also, I really miss the days when my boys were trick-or-treat age. My oldest lives in another state now, and my youngest is too old. He's going to a party with his girlfriend as Christine and The Phantom this year, and they look GREAT. He'll get home early enough to watch THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN with his old man, which is sort of a new tradition. I'll be home all night with the candy, which I usually eat myself, since we haven't had many kids around for the past few years.
Happy (almost) Halloween! Noticed that the Sundance channel has some old-school Abbott & Costello monster movies on today so I'm recording them on my TiVo to watch later. Great to see Lon Chaney Jr and Bela Legosi among others....
This stroll down amnesia lane made me think of a movie I saw at some point in my elementary school years 50+ years ago ... Disney's The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh - found a trailer for it on youtube (where else?)

Anyone else remember it?
I think the Scarecrow is one of Disney's best effort! My son found me a really bad copy from somewhere. I still watch from time to time! That is a great memory.
Ghost and Mr. Chicken is a fun one. We haven't watched that one in a few years. I'm fairly certain we have a DVD of that one somewhere in the media cabinet. If so, I will break it out and we will watch that one.
A couple of favorites for this time of year for us are Pumpkin Head and The Candyman. My wife promised to watch Texas Chainsaw with me so that one will be on play as well.
My first viewing of Chainsaw was when I was 12 or 13 on my buddies laser disc player. Scared me to death.
Saw Munsters Go Home for the first time since at least 1968-69? on Svengoolie last weekend. This stroll down amnesia lane made me think of a movie I saw at some point in my elementary school years 50+ years ago ... Brought back a lot of great memories. It was in color too! Since we didn’t get a color tv until around 1972 or 3. I remember building the models of there cars back around the same time, but I seem to think the coffin car was Grand pa’s?
I don’t recall Disney’s The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh though, it looks like something I would have been interested in. Thanks for bringing it up.

I don't remember The Munsters movie, but definitely seems like something I would have watched. Yes, I had very discerning tastes growing up 🤣 🤣 🤣 (and I think you're right about the coffin car being Grandpa's).
Same with us about color TV - we eventually got one but most of the time the kids were watching something on the old black & white set in "the other room" ... when we got a video game console (very advanced, it came with 3 - count 'em - THREE game that were variations on Pong) we could only hook it up to the B&W set ... My father didn't want the game to cause burn in on the new tv

I didn't remember much of the plot, but I had a strong memory of the masked Scarecrow riding his horse across the countryside while the theme song played ...

Say what you will about Don Knotts - but he had some memorable and very funny roles.
