I have two passionate hobbies in my life, and that really hasn't changed much over my lifetime...I suppose I'm nothing if not consistent.

One is, of course, books, and the other is motorcycles. To be honest, I'm not sure which is more important to me...both have been lifetime passions and are now inextricable from one another in the way they offer excitement, comfort, and perspectives on what it means to live and feel.

I've owned a dozen-plus bikes since I began riding at age ten. My current rides are a 2020 BMW R1250R and a gloriously orange 2025 Triumph Street Triple, and while I doubt they're my last bikes, I will say they're both the best bikes for their intended purpose that I've ever owned.

I'm not at all a motorcycle guy (I would probably kill myself if I tried to ride one!), but those are both beautiful machines, Ron.

I'm not a motorcycle guy myself, though at one point, I really wanted one. My wife shut that down pretty quickly. I will have to live vicariously through you, Ron. Very nice bikes, by the way!

Thanks, guys — yeah, I’m pretty fond of them both, and while I certainly get the reluctance of many to take up the sport — especially in this era of busy roads and auto drivers increasingly distracted by cell phones. But for those who do ride and, more, see it as a part of self, it’s an addictive thing.

My wife and I were talking about motorcycles a few years ago. I really enjoyed the various seasons of Long Way Around/Down/Up/Home that Ewan McGregor did with his buddy Charlie.

While we wouldn't ever go on a trip like they did, the idea of riding through Yellowstone or Rocky Mountain National Park was really appealing.

We never did do it - but I admit, sometimes I give it some thought, but damn I have enough expensive hobbies.  🙂
