I'll start: Don't Fear The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult in the opening sequence of The Stand miniseries (1994)
The IT: WELCOME TO DERRY opening credits were amazing, and the song was an earworm.

There can only be one.
The opening credits to John Carpenters Halloween.
Also, I don’t know the name of the classical music piece, but the opening to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining also sticks out in my head.

Nothing like a a few glimpses of quaint, small-town fun to start your day 🤣🤣🤣

Brilliant music - composed by Carpenter himself, although for some reason I thought it was composed by John Williams (probably because it felt like he did all the best music for all the best movies)

Of course I had to look it up... according to Google:
The main title in The Shining uses a traditional melody known as “Dies irae.” Translated from Latin as “day of wrath,” it is a somber chant dating back to the Middle Ages. The melody was originally used as part of funeral church services

The opening of the original STAR WARS blew me out of the theater as a six-year-old, and I will always have a soft spot for MAD MAX: BEYOND THUNDERDOME...Tina Turner's "One of the Living" always gives me chills.

Both great movies - and it's incredible to me that the STAR WARS premiered 49 years ago
Tina Turner was absolutely fantastic!
If we throw in television shows, it's hard to beat The Twilight Zone, X-Files, and The Night Stalker.
I will say The Omega Man, a film adaption of Matheson's I AM LEGEND (the second adaptation of (thus far) three), has one of the worst soundtracks. Very time-locked in the '70s, yes, but that's not the issue...it's just jarring in the way it doesn't often match the scene. I love the film in spite of it, an absolute seminal film from my childhood.
Maximum Overdrive - ‘Who Made Who’ by AC/DC
That song was the only good thing to come out of that coke-infused dumpster fire by King!

You gave me a good laugh there, Ron. I listen to movie scores sometimes when I read comics, and THE OMEGA MAN is in my soundtrack rotation. I consider it a "So bad it's good" CD. A few rare tracks match well with the scene, but, as you said, most scene/track matches are real headscratchers.
I remember watching the film on the 4:30 movie back in The Bronx with my saintly grandmother, who watched most of it through her fingers. She was a great sport, lol.
Maybe not the best overall but certainly the best for that story/movie. I love it and it was perfect.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Entertaining, but certainly not King's best work

HA HA!
Yeah, thank god King went back to writing and gave up making movies!
We’re all better off for it.

You know, it got a lot of flak when the movie first came out but I always loved the Metallica-influenced opening music to John Carpenter's In The Mouth of Madness.
More horror adjacent, but Nine Inch Nails' "Closer" at the beginning of Fincher's Seven is pitch-perfect for the film (so is the Pixies' "Where is My Mind?" at the end of Fight Club, but that's not an opening song nor a horror film...).
